Atmore (AL) - Atmore Community Hospital (ACH) holds groundbreaking ceremony for the ACH Urgent Care facility. The ACH Urgent Care groundbreaking took place on June 29, 2021 across from Wind Creek Casino on Highway 21 in Atmore, Ala.

The new urgent care will offer non emergent need and increased access to healthcare for Atmore and surrounding communities. This will replace the current walk-in clinic, expanding it to a fully functioning Urgent Care. The building that is currently leased may be utilized in other ways to positively impact the way healthcare is delivered to the Atmore community, though those plans are still being worked through.

Many of the project partners were on hand for the groundbreaking. Escambia County Health Care Authority Board (ECHCA), project manager - Johnson Development; architect - Goodwyn | Mills | Cawood, construction lead - Hoar Construction; lending institution - United Bank; and local leaders with the Escambia County Commission and of the City of Atmore.

The New ACH Urgent Care facility will be staffed by mid-level providers with a Physician Medical Director, the same way that ACH Med Plus operates today. ACH will offer one additional mid-level provider at the facility initially with the potential to grow into more provider coverage as we work to expand programs designed at assisting community business with their healthcare needs as well as community health initiatives. Care at the new Urgent Care Clinic will be delivered by an accomplished team of healthcare professionals, and will feature a lab, x-ray equipment, a pharmacy, and wellness care. The Urgent Care Clinic will work in coordination with Atmore Community Hospital as its parent organization and will be symbiotic with the other ACH physician clinics.

"This is the first step of many in a project that will culminate with the Urgent Care Facility in the spring of 2022," stated Debbie Rowell, ECHCA Board Chairwoman. "It has been a real team effort to get us to this wonderful milestone and we look forward to the progress we'll make in the months ahead.

Phase I of the ECHCA plan includes the urgent care facility with the strategic goal of expanding specialty services to the community. The plan includes coordinated efforts with larger hospitals and having specialty physicians placed into rotation periodically seeing patients at the new facility. The updated model will extend the opportunity to receive specialty care locally. Additions include the integration of employee health programs such as wellness screenings and preventive care.
