Nurse Residency Program

Nurse Residency Program

Quick Links

OVERVIEW
The ACH Nurse Residency Program is a program aimed at recruiting nurses to Atmore Community Hospital, while offering a more comprehensive on-boarding and education process by rotating program nurses through the four main nursing departments - Med/Surg, ICU, ED, and Surgery. This program will be eighteen (18) months of full-time, paid employment with emphasis on providing in-depth, hands-on education focused on challenges faced by new nurses. This will expose new nurses to various fields of expertise and specialties not afforded to the collective whole to give them experience and perspective to better identify departments that they best fit.

GOALS
Nurse mentorship - we want new nurses to succeed and employees that are exposed to a rural hospital to have the opportunity to gain experience in multiple areas of specialty to help build nursing skills and determine future career path.

Successful transition into a department a new nurse wants to join, exposure to fields that are not generally afforded to all that are hired by ACH (or many other hospital) and offer a more rounded experience for nurses that may choose to travel or further their career at the completion of the program.

A true float pool for the organization -having appropriate education and experience in various departments only improves our connectedness as a facility and truly trains nurses that can "do it all".

COMPLETION
The 18-month program offers a "clean" end-date that allows for both the nurse and hospital to end employment should they so choose.

If the nurse wants to stay, they may interview for open hospital positions (PRN float, or any full-time departments), but not lose their tenure or earned benefits. A nurse may be offered employment at any time during the program and can transition to full-time employment. The 18-month sign on obligation would remain, however.

Exit interview- at program completion, nursing leadership will conduct exit interviews to attain opportunities to improve the program and gain insight in how the new nurse felt about the program.
